What macOS version do I need?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. LurraType ships as a notarized DMG.
Do I need an OpenAI API key?
Only if you want the lowest-latency cloud mode. Offline mode runs entirely on your Mac with Apple Speech and a small local model — no API key needed, free forever.
Will my audio be uploaded?
Audio leaves your Mac only if you choose cloud mode and have configured an OpenAI key. In that case, audio goes directly from your Mac to OpenAI — never to our servers. In offline mode, no audio leaves your Mac.
Does it work in Chinese / Japanese / Korean?
Yes. Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), English, Japanese, and Korean are supported.
What's the difference between LurraType and macOS dictation?
Built-in macOS dictation transcribes speech literally. LurraType cleans up filler words, fixes punctuation, and applies an action (translate, formalize, etc.) when you use LurraKey. It also injects directly without going through the clipboard.
